ECG Findings Obtained from Workers Chronically Exposed to Carbon Monoxide Gas

Abstract
I reviewed the ECG findings of 50 Korean army cooks, who have been working in an army kitchen eight hours a day for twelve to thirty-two months. The carbon monoxide concentration in the air of the kitchen ranged from 10 to 30 ppm.
The findings obtained were as follows:
1. Eleven cases showed counter-clock wise rotation of their hearts in ECG.
2. Duration of the QRS was prolonged and the S-wave was sunken.
3. Ten cases of incomplete right bundle branch block were found by the QRS-complex. This suggests degeneration of the heart muscles.
4. Twelve cases of left ventricular hypertrophy were found by the QRS-complex.
5. Nineteen cases with sinking of the ST-segment and inversion of the T-wave were noted. This suggests right coronary insufficiency.
